If you got married/entered common law status/were divorced or separated in the tax year, the change in status may impact your tax liability. It is important to inform the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as soon as possible.

You can change your marital status using the ‘My Account’ feature on the Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA’s) website or by calling the CRA directly.  Changes in your marital status may impact CRA tax credits and benefits, for example the Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB) payments.

If you change your name, you should inform the CRA as soon as possible to ensure that your records are updated.

For more information on what you should know when your marital status changes, please visit the CRA website (www.cra-arc.gc.ca).
